Abstract: A Colonial Revival home in downtown Portland, Maine, recently came on the market for $3.45 million. The six-bedroom mansion, known locally as the Webb House, was built in 1906 for a lawyer named Richard Heinz Webb.

The handsome estate was designed by famed Portland architect John Calvin Stevens, and there are even rumors that it was his favorite project.

We can certainly see why.

The home's original structure remains intact, and the 2019 addition of a sunroom blends perfectly with the exterior design.

According to Realtor.com®, the current owners purchased the property in 2014 for $1.61 million.

They modernized the nearly 6,000-square-foot home with a gourmet kitchen and high-end appliances, plus climate control in the bedrooms.

Notable spaces in the house include the entry and grand staircase, the living room and a library with built-ins.

There are many unique architectural features here, and listing agent Melissa Mckersie is at pains to name her favorites.

There's a floating staircase; high ceilings throughout; and six period fireplaces," she says.

Also noteworthy are the gilded, fireplace ceilings in the four en-suite bathrooms and dining room. The house even has a finished basement that could be used as a media room, gym or recreation room.

In addition to the house's turnkey condition, its location is a major plus - just a step away from the coveted West Side's many retail and entertainment venues.

"There's a lively restaurant and art scene in this part of Portland," says Mckersie." The house is also within walking distance of the private school Wayneflete."
